A Visit To Maythorne

Maythorne is a tiny 18th century hamlet based upon silk and cotton milling. It's located near to Southwell, Nottinghamshire and the only reason I knew this place existed at all was because someone recommended the local tearoom All Mine Cakes By The Lake (which is brilliant, incidentally, and sits in front of the lake to the right hand side of the road.). The mill was converted into residential use as flats in the 1980s. Maythorne lies at the end of a narrow lane and has two lakes, which are very popular with fishermen. If you walk past the old mill and turn left, the road turns into a pathway which takes you over the bridge across the river Greet.
